ONLY 30% OF FAMILY BUSINESSES SURVIVE PAST THE FIRST GENERATION AND ONLY 5% TO 15% TO A THIRD GENERATION

In order to support the process of business succession planning a set of tools for business succession planning was developed. These tools are meant to facilitate conversations among different stakeholders and assist them in sorting out necessary steps in guided workshops. This is important because especially small businesses do not have the same opportunities to train and develop top management as larger organisations do. Additionally they often lack the resources to engage external consultants to give professional advice and facilitate the succession planning process. Therefore the toolkit was developed to also allow supporting complex constellations with special needs that would normally not manage to overcome these obstacles by themselves.
