The larger a freezer’s size, the smaller the overview about its content usually is. Thus stored products vanish from the memory and are rarely considered in meals. In cooperation with BSH Home Appliances GmbH and HomeConnect this bachelor thesis presents a user-centered design approach developing future use-cases for home appliances in the Smart Home. “Tag’n’freeze” is an inventory system developed to enable users to keep track of frozen food by checking the freezer’s content on a mobile device. Information such as amount and best before dates can be managed via app. General usage and the most common problems with freezers were explored to fit the user needs. This made it possible to tailor the concept to the users’ habits in an early stage of the development. Afterwards the result was evaluated and improved with a usability test.
The results among others were the integration of the concept into the HomeConnect app with a click prototype, a trade fair flyer and information graphics illustrating the concept, three usecase movies, an extensive user research and a theoretical bachelor thesis. Due to NDA only parts can be shown.
